Recycling Service

Duncan Disposal operates the City of North Richland Hills’ curbside recycling program. Recyclable materials collection is provided one (1) time each week. Recyclable materials are picked up on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday, depending upon where you live within the city. Click the Collection Schedules link to view the specific recycling collection schedule for your area.

Under the city's franchise agreement with Duncan Disposal, garbage and recycling collection schedules may change days during the weeks of the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Specific notices of schedule changes will days will be posted to this area of the Web site at least two weeks in advance.

Recyclable materials can be placed loose in the plastic bin and do not need to be sorted by material type (this includes newspapers, magazines and household paper). The materials will be sorted at Recycling Plant in Arlington.

Please make sure that all bottles, jars and cans are rinsed and lids are removed before putting them in the recycling bin. The bin should be set at the curb by 7 a.m. on your assigned collection day.

Recycling Collection Schedule

The following items can be placed in your recycling bin:
  • Aluminum Cans: We suggest that you step on the cans to save space in your bin.
  • Glass: You can recycle clear, green and brown bottles and jars. Please do not place mirrors, window glass, plate glass, light bulbs, ceramics or broken glass in the recycling bin.
  • Plastic: Plastic bottles of types #1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 can be placed in the bin (the plastic type should be stamped on the bottom of the container). This includes milk and water jugs, soft drink bottles and detergent bottles. No butter tubs or plastic bottles that contained oil or petroleum by-products are accepted. As a general rule, only recycle plastic items with a mouth smaller than the base.
  • Metal cans: Rinse metal food cans before placing them in the bin. It is not necessary to remove labels.
  • Newspaper, magazines, catalogs: Place dry newspaper (slightly damp is acceptable, but not soaked through) newspapers, magazines and catalogs loose in the bottom of the bin to prevent them from blowing away in the wind. Telephone books will be collected annually during redistribution periods.
  • Junk mail, cardboard, household paper: Place all junk mail, envelopes, cereal boxes, cardboard, chipboard and any other household paper products in a paper grocery sack and put beside or inside bin. These loose paper products need to be separate from other materials in the bin. No tissues, wet paper or paper contaminated with food products will be accepted. All cardboard must be broken down to fit inside the bin; larger boxes may be placed underneath the bin, but only flattened boxes will be accepted.
  • Overflow: Place overflow material in a bag or box beside your recycling bin.

For additional information, please contact Duncan Disposal at (817) 317-2450.

Residents needing an additional recycling bin may pick one up at city hall for an additional charge of $8.00 per bin.
